Job summary

SMS group Inc. in Youngstown, OH, is seeking a Buyer to ensure timely procurement of materials and services for production.

You will source high-quality products at competitive prices and maintain strong supplier relationships to support manufacturing goals. You will analyze market trends, negotiate contracts, coordinate with production, engineering, and quality assurance, and manage inventory to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school diploma; Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business, SCM, or related field preferred
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably in manufacturing
• Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel
• Strong negotiation and communication skills
• Ability to analyze data and make informed purchasing decisions

Responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, price, delivery, and service capabilities
• Negotiate purchase terms, contracts, and pricing agreements to secure favorable conditions
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with production planning to ensure material availability
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to forecast demand and plan procurement activities accordingly
• Maintain accurate purchasing records and prepare reports on procurement metrics and supplier performance
• Resolve any supply issues or discrepancies to prevent production delays
• Stay informed on market trends, new products, and supplier innovations to recommend improvements
