Job summary

SMS group USA is seeking an Indirect Buyer to source, estimate and purchase from our vendor base, negotiating pricing and contracts to keep us competitive on cost and delivery.

This on-site role collaborates with engineering, sales and project teams, reviews CAD drawings for sourcing options, monitors supplier performance and drives continuous improvement in procurement processes. Pittsburgh-based opportunity with growth in a dynamic metals environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in purchasing, supply chain management, or business administration.
• One plus year of related experience (preferably in the metals industry).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work both independently and within a group.
• Hands-on approach with an imaginative and resourceful problem solving mindset.
• Understanding and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications a plus.
• Proven track record negotiating with vendors.
• Understanding of quality department functions.
• Result oriented with analytical and organizational skills.
• Clear communication within all levels of a company.
• Understanding of supply chain processes and solid problem solving ability.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
• SAP/ERP system proficiency a plus

Responsibilities

• Review the requirements from customer service, project management, and purchasing to ensure sourcing support and place purchase orders.
• Request and evaluate quotes from vendors to determine best sourcing options.
• Look for cost saving opportunities within purchasing responsibilities.
• Review CAD drawings to provide best sourcing option in terms of quality, price and delivery.
• Monitor vendors to improve on-time delivery performance.
• Resolve warranty claims with vendors.
• Execute sourcing activities in compliance with company policies.
• Facilitate resolution of quality issues with vendors as they arise.
• Read, understand and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Work with internal engineering groups to answer drawing questions from vendors.
• Collaborate with Technical Sales Support, Quality, Sales, Project Managers, and other departments.
• Conduct vendor site visits from the commercial side as needed.
