Job summary

UFP Purchasing Inc. is seeking a Buyer to source and procure wood products and related items in coordination with other buyers, purchasing departments, plant management, and sales teams across facilities.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, 3–5 years in lumber, and solid knowledge of Microsoft Office and Cardex. Salary ranges from $70,000 to $80,000 with an annual bonus potential and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in business or related discipline or equivalent experience is required.
• Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in lumber industry is required.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook, and other business software.
• Working knowledge of lumber math and business math.
• Working knowledge of commodity market conditions and dynamics.
• Working knowledge of lumber and panel grade rules.

Responsibilities

• Identifies material sources relative to facility needs.
• Develops and maintains relationships with sales and sales management of key suppliers.
• Procures products meeting quality, service, and price requirements.
• Provides current market levels and future market direction predictions.
• Understands processes and products produced at the facilities.
• Develops understanding of manufacturing capabilities, customers, products, and service needs.
• Proactively offers relevant products to sales and plant management.
• Helps develop and grow sales and margin through collaboration with sales and management.
• Operates inventory software: creates/updates purchase orders, responds to claims, navigates Cardex, sets up buy lists, prepares reports.
