Job Overview: The Purchaser / Lumber Purchaser in the building components manufacturing industry is responsible for purchasing lumber, other raw materials, equipment, and services required for production. This role involves managing supplier relationships, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality materials, and working closely with production teams to meet manufacturing schedules and cost targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Material Sourcing and Procurement:
  • Identify and source as needed lumber, raw materials, components, and equipment essential for the production of building components.
  • Ensure that all purchased materials meet the required specifications and industry standards.
  • Lumber Procurement:
  • Specialize in sourcing different grades and types of lumber, understanding market trends, and ensuring a steady supply of quality wood for production.
  • Work with suppliers to secure the best prices and delivery schedules, considering the fluctuations in the lumber market.
  • Monitor lumber quality and collaborate with production teams to ensure the wood meets structural and aesthetic requirements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, particularly those providing lumber, to ensure continuous supply and favorable terms.
  • Monitor supplier performance, address issues, and manage supplier risks.
  • Inventory Management:
  • Maintain optimal inventory levels for lumber and other raw materials to support production without overstocking.
  • Collaborate with warehouse and production teams to ensure materials are available as needed.
  • Cost Management:
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through alternative sourcing or negotiation strategies.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
