Job summary

Ganahl Lumber seeks an experienced Lumber Buyer to lead purchasing, inventory planning, and supply-chain coordination for lumber and related building materials. The role balances product mix, demand, lead times, and transportation costs while ensuring quality and availability.

The ideal candidate has extensive lumber industry knowledge, strong supplier relationships, and proven forecasting, negotiation, and inventory-management experience.

Qualifications

• Requires several years buying/purchasing experience in lumber/building materials
• Strong knowledge of lumber products, grades, dimensions, and supply channels
• Experience forecasting demand and placing purchase orders
• Proven ability to negotiate with mills, suppliers, brokers, and freight providers
• Established industry relationships and understanding of lumber-market dynamics
• Ability to interpret data into sound buying decisions
• Excellent communication and multitasking in a fast-paced environment
• In-person, Anaheim, CA job location with full-time hours

Responsibilities

• Purchase lumber and related products to meet sales forecasts and inventory targets
• Manage inventory levels across product categories balancing availability and cost
• Develop demand forecasts using sales history, trends, and market intel
• Build and maintain relationships with mills, brokers, and suppliers
• Negotiate pricing, terms, freight, delivery, and volume commitments
• Monitor market conditions affecting supply and costs
• Coordinate inbound transportation and consolidate shipments
• Track orders, lead times, and delivery performance
• Collaborate with sales/ops to understand customer demand and projects
• Maintain accurate product/vendor/pricing data in systems
• Support vendor evaluations and strategic purchasing initiatives
• Resolve shortages, discrepancies, and transportation disruptions
