Job summary

Texas Southmost College seeks a senior Legal Counsel to serve as the College’s primary legal advisor, guiding compliance and risk management across departments. You will draft and negotiate contracts, advise on employment matters, student rights, and policy development, and coordinate with senior leadership on litigation strategy.

This role also involves training staff and representing the College in regulatory matters.

Responsibilities

• Provides legal advice on contracts, policies, employment matters, student affairs, and compliance with federal/state/local laws.
• Drafts, reviews, and negotiates contracts and agreements including vendor relationships, grants, and employment matters.
• Oversees all litigation involving the College, coordinates with external counsel, and advises on litigation strategy.
• Ensures compliance with Title VII, Title IX, FERPA, ADA, labor laws, and other requirements.
• Advises on employment law, personnel issues, labor relations, and collective bargaining matters.
• Develops and reviews regulations, policies, and procedures to protect the College’s legal interests and ensure compliance.
• Acts as primary liaison with government agencies, responds to subpoenas and public records requests.
• Conducts trainings on legal issues for staff, faculty, and administrators.
• Reviews and prepares legal documents to facilitate diverse transactions; supports IP matters.
• Attends board and committee meetings and collaborates with vice presidents and staff.
