The University of Texas Press seeks a Journals Manager on UT Main Campus to lead the journals division and direct acquisitions, budgeting, and production for sixteen journals. Reporting to the press director, you will supervise a small team and collaborate with societies and editors to advance scholarly publishing.

You should bring a bachelor’s degree in humanities or social sciences and at least five years in scholarly publishing, with strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in humanities or social sciences.
  • Five or more years of experience in scholarly publishing.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize deadlines.
  • Knowledge of publishing workflows (editorial, production, print, digital).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Acquisitions: define standards, evaluate journals, negotiate contracts with societies and editors.
  • Business Development: create new revenue sources and expand customer base.
  • Finance and Budgeting: plan and monitor annual Journals Division budget.
  • General Management: lead the Press management team and supervise staff.
  • Permissions: process requests to use material from UT Press Journals.
  • Copyright: register journals with the US Copyright Office.
  • Partner Relations: maintain relations with societies, sponsors, and editors.
  • Production: oversee copyediting, typesetting, proofreading, and electronic publishing.
