Job summary

Westlake Chemical Corporation in Houston, TX seeks a Senior Intellectual Property Counsel to join the Legal team. The role blends IP, contract and transactional work supporting the businesses, research centers, manufacturing facilities, and M&A clients, with some IT collaboration.

The position requires working on-site at HQ offices at least 3 days per week. The ideal candidate has a JD, USPTO bar, strong academic credentials, 8+ years IP experience, and the ability to balance legal and business

Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree and licensed to practice law in Texas.
Licensed to practice before the USPTO.
Strong academic credentials from a top-rated law school.
Minimum of 8 years of IP experience, with major firm and in-house background.
Willingness to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

Provide IP law counsel to client groups on patents, trademarks, and related matters.
Develop and implement strategies to protect IP assets across the business.
Draft and negotiate IP contracts and IP-related service/subscription agreements.
Support IP aspects of complex transactions including mergers and acquisitions.
Advise on litigation when appropriate and coordinate with outside counsel.
Manage outside counsel and ensure budget-minded engagement.
Provide training on substantive IP topics to company personnel.
