Job summary

Meta House in Milwaukee is seeking a collaborative Director of Human Resources to serve as a strategic and operational leader responsible for developing and executing the organization’s people strategy.

The role oversees all facets of HR including compliance, talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits, workforce planning, leadership development, culture, and engagement, partnering with leaders to support mission and growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in HR, business, nonprofit management, or related field; master’s preferred.
• 8+ years of progressive HR experience, including senior leadership.
• Minimum 5 years managing HR teams.
• Experience guiding growth, restructuring, or workforce transformation.
• Experience advising senior leadership on strategic workforce issues.
• Experience building culture and employee engagement programs.
• Preferred nonprofit/healthcare/human services exposure.
• HRIS proficiency (ADP Workforce Now preferred) and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive HR strategy aligned with organizational goals.
• Advise on workforce planning, succession and talent management.
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies including background and reference checks.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and maintain HR policies.
• Lead employee relations and performance management systems.
• Oversee compensation, benefits, HR operations and analytics.
• Develop leadership programs and culture initiatives.
• Plan workforce development and right-sizing initiatives.
