Job summary

MUSC Health Florence Medical Center is seeking a Chief Operating Officer to join its senior management team. The role involves strategic oversight of hospital operations, coordination with the CEO, and ensuring regulatory and quality standards across departments.

The COO will lead administrative projects, manage budgets, and foster strong physician relations while driving cost efficiency and service line development in a leading regional acute care facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field required.
• Master’s in Business Administration or Healthcare Administration preferred.
• Minimum of four years of managerial experience in an acute care hospital.
• Experience managing multiple departments, including support and non-nursing clinical.
• Experience in physician relations and/or recruitment.
• Basic knowledge of hospital financial systems.
• Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, identify underlying issues, formulate solutions, and teach others.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate facility and program planning, budget preparation, and administration of hospital policies.
• Represent the hospital at professional, civic, and governmental meetings.
• Assist the CEO with physician recruitment and retention, and identification of new service lines and capital expenditures.
• Work with the CEO to ensure regulatory and quality accreditation requirements are met with the Chief Nursing Officer.
• Develop strategies to strengthen medical staff relations and address physician concerns.
• Plan revenue/profit goals with the CEO and translate into actionable plans.
• Identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.
