Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, law, or related field; Master's preferred.
• Extensive experience in government relations or intergovernmental affairs.
• Strong understanding of government structures and policy-making at local, state, and federal levels.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to advocate county interests.
• Political acumen and strategic thinking to navigate environments and build consensus.
• Proven ability to cultivate relationships with elected officials, agencies, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategies to build and maintain relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and key stakeholders at local, state, and federal levels.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for intergovernmental communications, facilitating coordination and collaboration between Montgomery County and external entities.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments at local, state, and federal levels, analyzing their potential impact on county operations, priorities, and funding.
• Advocate for Montgomery County's interests through direct engagement with officials, staff, and agencies, in-person and in writing.
• Coordinate with county departments and officials to advance legislative priorities, policy positions, and advocacy agendas.
• Represent Montgomery County in intergovernmental meetings, hearings, and forums, presenting positions and building partnerships.
• Prepare briefing materials, talking points, and presentations on intergovernmental issues and advocacy efforts.
• Cultivate relationships with external stakeholders to advance shared policy objectives and leverage resources.
• Track and report on legislative and advocacy activities, outcomes, and impact to county leadership and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with county communications to develop messaging and outreach strategies supporting advocacy efforts.
