Job summary

Metra Commuter Rail in Chicago is seeking a Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst to support asset management and storehouse operations. You will manage GIS data development, produce high-quality geospatial deliverables, and help establish governance for data production, use, and sharing across the agency.

Reporting to the GIS Manager, you will collaborate with IT and other departments, train users, and ensure maps and data meet regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in geography, CS, urban planning, engineering, environmental sciences or related field.
• Minimum 3 years in data modeling, application or database development, or GIS implementation.
• Knowledge of GIS concepts, ArcGIS/QGIS, coordinate systems.
• SQL and spatial database knowledge; data visualization.
• GPS/remotely sensed data knowledge.
• GIS governance standards and geospatial database design.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and relational databases.
• Experience with ArcGIS Pro, ArcCatalog, ModelBuilder and IBM Maximo Spatial.
• Scripting with Python or RStudio preferred.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage spatial data development from requirements to deployment.
• Provide technical support for data integration into enterprise apps.
• Coordinate with IT and other departments to fulfill spatial data requests.
• Define standards and governance for GIS data sharing.
• Mentor staff and oversee team performance.
• Promote safe work practices and a safe environment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
