Job summary

Community Transit is seeking a Senior General Counsel to serve as the chief legal advisor to the CEO, executive team, and Board. This role shapes policy, governance, and complex transactions for a large public transit agency in Snohomish County and the Puget Sound region.

The position requires robust public-sector legal experience, strategic judgment, and a track record of managing outside counsel while guiding organizational decisions and risk management.

Qualifications

• Eight (8) or more years of progressively responsible legal experience in government or regulated sectors.
• Ability to provide practical, strategic legal counsel to executives and boards.
• Experience managing outside counsel and balancing risk with objectives.

Responsibilities

• Serve as principal legal advisor to Board, CEO, and leadership team.
• Provide strategic counsel on governance, contracts, labor, procurement, and regulatory matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and interlocal agreements.
• Oversee litigation strategy and legal budgets; monitor regulatory developments.
• Support major capital projects and long-term planning.
