Job summary

Community Transit in Everett, WA seeks a General Counsel to serve as the agency's chief legal advisor and a key member of the executive leadership team.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the General Counsel will oversee all legal affairs, provide strategic counsel on governance, contracts, labor and procurement, and help guide risk management, regulatory compliance, and major capital projects for a public agency serving hundreds of thousands of residents.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and Washington State eligibility.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible legal experience, preferably with governmental or public sector clients.
• Broad-based experience in governance, regulatory, and operational matters.
• Ability to provide practical, strategic legal counsel to executives and boards.
• Experience managing outside counsel and balancing risk with objectives.
• Exceptional judgment and communication for complex policy issues.

Responsibilities

• Serve as principal legal advisor to the Board, CEO, and executive leadership.
• Provide strategic counsel on governance, contracts, labor, procurement, and more.
• Advise on complex legal, regulatory, and policy issues to support objectives.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and interlocal agreements.
• Support initiatives including acquisitions, partnerships, and other transactions.
• Oversee outside counsel, litigation strategy, and legal budgets.
• Monitor legislative developments and advise on risks and opportunities.
• Provide legal guidance for major capital projects and planning.
