Job summary

Whatcom County Public Works Department seeks a Flood Initiatives Projects Manager to lead some of the county's highest priority infrastructure efforts, turning long-range resilience plans into concrete projects across flood mitigation, habitat restoration, and river management.

The role requires coordinating across county departments, Tribal governments, regulators, consultants, and community groups, driving planning through construction while communicating technical details to the public and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
• Five years of progressively responsible experience leading complex programs.
• Three years of leadership directing staff and multidisciplinary teams.
• PE license preferred; PMP/CFM/LEG/CCM extras.

Responsibilities

• Lead implementation of flood mitigation and floodplain projects.
• Coordinate across departments, Tribal partners, regulators, and stakeholders.
• Translate priorities into on-the-ground projects through planning, design, permitting, and construction.
• Ensure projects meet milestones and measure resilience outcomes.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field

Five years of progressively responsible experience leading complex programs

Three years of leadership directing staff and multidisciplinary teams

Professional Engineer license preferred; PMP/CFM/LEG/CCM extras
