Job summary

The City of Columbus invites qualified applicants to lead the Division of Fire, directing programs for prevention, EMS, and rescue operations. You will oversee staffing, budgeting, and policy development to meet evolving community needs.

Reporting to the Public Safety Director, you will coordinate with other divisions and agencies, develop strategic plans, and supervise a team of officers to ensure rapid, effective responses to emergencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Must obtain Firefighter II and Fire Safety inspector certifications by probationary period.
• Five years with any combination of Fire Assistant Chief, Fire Deputy Chief, or Fire Battalion Chief (or comparable experience).

Responsibilities

• Direct the Division of Fire's overall management and priorities.
• Plan, direct, and review activities to ensure fire prevention, EMS, and rescue readiness.
• Supervise staff, manage budgets, and develop long-range plans.
• Coordinate with City officials and other agencies; prepare reports for officials.
• Oversee disaster response planning and multi-agency collaboration.
