Job summary

Gross Schechter Day School in Solon, Ohio, is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to lead all financial operations for an annual budget of about $6 million and a staff of roughly 80 professionals.

The role reports to the Head of School, interfaces with the Board and its committees, manages budgeting, accounting, HR, payroll, audits, and donor relations, and provides essential financial information to guide decision making.

Qualifications

• Five years of relevant experience in nonprofit accounting.
• Experience in not-for-profit accounting.
• Experience in an independent school setting.
• Experience supervising and developing staff.
• Experience working with trustees, donors and key lay leaders.

Responsibilities

• Report to and work closely with the Head of School.
• Liaison with Board Treasurer, Finance Committee and full Board of Trustees.
• Liaison with donors and Investment Committee members.
• Liaison with federations and donor constituencies ensuring compliance.
• Provide the HOS and Board with vital financial information to inform decisions.
• Manage school-wide budgeting and ongoing budget governance.
• Oversee finance and accounting systems.
• Communicate with insurers and manage policies.
• Coordinate external auditors' activities.
• Plan and coordinate all accounting operations.
• Manage state funds and scholarships; consolidate financial data for accurate reporting.
• Coordinate and prepare internal and external financial statements.
• Assess operations; implement improvements and new processes.
• Evaluate internal controls and accounting software and databases.
• Develop and monitor business performance metrics.
• Oversee regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance.
• Liaison with teachers and staff regarding payroll.
• Manage 403(b) process with federation and plan.
• Oversee HR vendor relationships with People Architects and PSI.
• Supervise and support finance team and office manager.
• Assist parents with tuition and financial aid inquiries.
• Hire, train and retain office, bookkeeping and accounting staff and contractors.
