Job summary

A.J. Manufacturing, headquartered in Bloomer, WI, seeks a strategic Controller to lead the finance function on-site at the Bloomer headquarters.

This role combines high-level financial leadership with hands-on accounting oversight, driving profitability and operational excellence across manufacturing, costing, and ERP systems. The Controller will partner with the President, supervise accounting staff, and oversee budgeting, forecasting, and KPI reporting to support strategic decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required.
• Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory experience required.
• Strong hands-on technical accounting skills, including GAAP, month-end close, and account reconciliation.
• Working knowledge of ERP systems required; experience with ERP selection and implementation strongly preferred.
• Proven ability to lead, train, and develop accounting staff.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Strong communicator with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions.
• CPA preferred.
• Experience with LEAN accounting, cost accounting, inventory valuation, product costing and manufacturing principles preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements per GAAP; own month-end close.
• Prepare and present financial reporting to the Board; provide insights on trends.
• Supervise AP/AR staff; review processes and ensure vendor/customer management.
• Oversee standard costing, inventory valuation, and product costing in manufacturing.
• Design and maintain internal controls and accounting policies; drive process improvements.
• Collaborate on annual budget, forecasts, and KPI reporting.
