Job summary

STEPS Behavioral Health is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and finance functions in our Pikesville, MD office. This hands-on role focuses on GAAP reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and building scalable financial systems for growth.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in accounting leadership, CPA preferred, with healthcare or multi-location experience. Expect collaboration with executives and opportunity to drive automation and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• CPA designation strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience, including Controller or senior finance roles.
• Experience in healthcare/ABA or multi-location service organizations preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, reconciliations, and close.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and long-range planning.
• Develop and optimize financial systems and automate processes.
• Provide leadership and coaching to accounting staff and partner with executives.
• Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements by entity and department.
