Job summary

Common Cause in Washington, DC, seeks a proactive Manager, Legislative Affairs to support federal advocacy across Voting, Civil Rights, and related pillars. The role reports to the Senior Director, Legislative Affairs and requires in-office presence two days a week with peak session travel.

Responsibilities include tracking legislation, coordinating with state teams and coalitions, drafting memos and briefing materials, and overseeing coalition sign-ons.

• Experience working on public advocacy campaigns related to democracy, elections, voting rights and civil rights.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and strong interest in current statewide/national democracy issues, including voting rights, redistricting, campaign finance reform, disinformation, ethics, etc.
• Ability to work collaboratively with others, and to build rapport, trust, and credibility with multiple stakeholders with diverse interests.
• Ability to navigate organizational and power dynamics, respectfully navigate conflict while maintaining your values, and influence others to adopt changes to meet common goals.
• Ability to manage and meet deadlines for multiple short- and long-term priorities at once, with high attention to detail, strong organization skills, and the ability to manage your time independently.
• Ability to compel action through both written and verbal communication, including distilling complex concepts for a broad audience, and to differentiate communications as needed for various audiences, and ideally you have served as an external spokesperson for an organization previously or have experience speaking to the media.
• Familiarity with office productivity tools including Microsoft Office and Zoom.

• State team, coalition, and external partnerships.
• Materials preparation, drafting, and process administration.
