Job summary

Elsevier is seeking a Strategic Engagement Manager to drive growth across data, analytics and SAAS offerings, engaging senior stakeholders and shaping strategic discussions.

In a highly matrixed environment, you will lead multi‑stakeholder opportunities from start to finish, support renewals, and extend value through analytics and AI expertise across global accounts.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of analytics, SAAS or AI in enterprise or institutional settings.
  • Translate technical capabilities into institutional/business value.
  • End-to-end multi-stakeholder deal experience in large environments.
  • Collaborate effectively in a matrixed environment.
  • Deliver compelling narratives to senior audiences.
  • Experience with academia/government or large enterprises valued.
  • Willingness to travel regionally; AI expertise considered.
  • Fluency in English; Mandarin or Japanese valued.

Responsibilities

  • Originates, develops, advances and closes strategic, high‑value opportunities within priority accounts; partners with Account Managers as needed.
  • Expand stakeholder networks with multi‑level engagement and broad support.
  • Lead engagements where analytics, AI, and data‑driven insights drive decisions.

  • Articulate measurable impact through tailored value expansion and workshops.

About the Role

This is a sales role to drive growth and strengthen customer value across our portfolio of data, analytics and SAAS solutions.

This role brings together deep data and domain expertise with strong commercial acumen to engage senior stakeholders, shape strategic discussions, and lead complex, high-value opportunities. The SEM will play a key role in driving new business growth, supporting renewal success, and enabling long-term business growth across large, strategically important accounts.

Responsibilities
  • Independently originate, develop, advance and close strategic, large-value, complex opportunities within priority accounts, taking ownership of the full sales cycle. Partner and align with Account Managers as appropriate to maximize account success, while remaining accountable for driving opportunity creation and deal closure.
  • Expand stakeholder networks by building multi-level engagement and securing broad organizational support.
  • Lead engagements where analytics, AI, and data-driven insights are central to customer decision-making.
  • Support high-value and complex renewals by engaging senior stakeholders and reinforcing solution value.
  • Articulate measurable impact through tailored value expansion and deliver high-impact workshops to generate demand and strengthen customer engagement.
  • Demonstrate deep expertise across research analytics, AI applications, and SaaS platforms, positioning solutions based on customer needs.
  • Strengthen Elsevier’s metrics authority and commercial preference through strategic engagement, alignment with priorities, conference participation, thought leadership, workshops, and executive sessions.
Requirements
  • Commercially driven with 5+ years of expertise in analytics, SAAS or AI with the ability to translate technical capabilities into institutional and business value.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply data-driven insights in customer-facing engagements and strategic discussions.
  • Proven experience developing, driving complex, high value, multi-stakeholder opportunities in enterprise or institutional environments, from start to end.
  • Strong collaboration skills with a proven ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed, cross‑functional environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to deliver compelling, insight-led narratives to senior audiences.
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders in academia, government, or large enterprises is highly valued.
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, results‑driven environment, across global teams and time zones, with flexibility to support engagements beyond standard working hours when required.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across the region to support strategic initiatives and engagements, with AI expertise
  • Background in government IT sales and / or data science is highly valuable. PHD preferred but not mandatory.
  • Fluency in English. Additional second Asian language fluency in Mandarin or Japanese is highly valued.
