Job summary

American Physiological Society seeks a Professional Development Director to build and lead a reimagined professional development function. You will develop a portfolio of learning experiences that advance APS’s priorities, partnering with staff and volunteers to deliver in-person, virtual and on-demand programs for scientists, educators and trainees.

The role reports to the Chief Community Officer and emphasizes strategic alignment, stakeholder engagement and revenue generation through learning

Qualifications

• Eight+ years of progressively responsible experience developing, managing and growing a professional development portfolio.
• Experience working in a scientific society is preferred.
• Experience using market research, community insights and program data to identify and validate new program opportunities.
• Demonstrated experience developing new programs from concept through launch, evaluation and growth.
• Knowledge of adult-learning principles, instructional design and multiple learning modalities.
• Experience managing learning management systems (LMS).
• Strong organizational, project management and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to travel for APS meetings, approximately 5%.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a professional development strategy aligned with APS’s priorities and revenue goals.
• Identify, evaluate and develop revenue-generating professional development opportunities.
• Lead the professional development department and supervise the program manager and coordinator.
• Manage and optimize APS’s learning management system for learners, faculty and staff.
• Collaborate with advisory boards, volunteers and external partners to expand offerings.
• Track portfolio performance and report on participation, learner outcomes and financials.
