Job summary

Suffolk County Community College is seeking a Director of Legislative Affairs to monitor, develop, and advance the College’s government relations priorities at local, state, and federal levels. The role liaises with government officials, advocacy groups, and college leadership to advance public policy objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in political science, public administration, or related field.
• Minimum four years of full-time government relations experience.
• Experience with New York State legislative and budget processes.
• JD or Master’s degree (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison to the Board of Trustees Advocacy Committee and support committee priorities.
• Develop county, state, and federal government relations agendas and strategies.
• Represent the College’s interests to government officials across NY and Albany.
• Cultivate relationships with local, state, and federal officials and advocacy groups.
• Monitor legislation and budget activity; brief leadership on developments.
• Prepare memos, talking points, testimony, and correspondence for senior leadership.
• Plan and execute public/government relations events and briefings.
• Travel to Albany and on Long Island as needed to advance goals.
