Job summary

The University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for the Director of the Institute of Behavioral Science (IBS). The appointee will hold a tenured or tenure‑eligible faculty position and bring proven administrative leadership and research expertise.

The role requires vision, collaboration, and a commitment to inclusive, interdisciplinary practice that elevates IBS’s reach and impact. The Director will guide strategy, operations, and financial stewardship, and nurture partnerships across CU

Qualifications

• Record of outstanding scholarly achievement in social and/or behavioral sciences.
• Tenured or tenure-track record at a major research university.
• Experience in research and administrative leadership.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for IBS by articulating a forward‑looking vision and aligning priorities with campus goals.
• Lead recruitment, mentorship, development, and retention of faculty, staff, researchers, and students.
• Promote research excellence, scholarly impact, and informed decision-making across the institute.
• Be responsible for the institute’s budget, personnel actions, and resource allocation.
• Convene and lead meetings of the IBS Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
• Represent IBS externally, guiding communications with CU Boulder partners, funders, and communities.
• Establish strategic relationships to enhance visibility and attract resources.
