Job summary

City of Fayetteville, Arkansas is seeking a senior supervisor to lead the Planning and Building Safety divisions, directing permitting, development review, and code compliance. You will shape zoning policies, manage staff, and collaborate with developers and community groups to implement city plans.

The role requires strategic leadership, strong communication, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments, reporting to the Development Services leadership team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with seven years of relevant experience; master's preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership and supervision experience.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise divisions of Planning and Building Safety as a full-service permitting department.
• Define and refine development review processes from application to occupancy, publishing timelines.
• Coordinate with developers, builders, professionals and neighborhood groups to improve ordinances.
• Attend City Council meetings and provide policy recommendations on planning and building safety.
• Develop and administer annual department budget and capital submissions.
• Lead policy development aligned with Mayor and City Council goals.
• Ensure compliance with city, county, state and federal laws in planning operations.
• Oversee cross-department collaboration to enforce zoning and development regulations.
