Job summary

The City of Fayetteville is seeking a capable planning supervisor to lead staff in zoning, development review, and long-range planning efforts. You will coordinate cross-departmental work to interpret ordinances, guide land use proposals, and ensure timely, compliant processing through the Development Services framework.

Applicants should be prepared to engage with developers and the public, present recommendations to the Planning Commission, and maintain accurate official maps and documentation

Responsibilities

• Lead supervisory responsibilities including directing work, evaluating performance, and enforcing City policies and laws.
• Coordinate between departments to evaluate development and land use applications and enforce ordinances.
• Direct planning activities such as zoning changes, variances, site plans, platting and subdivisions.
• Serve as a facilitator within the development review process, ensuring efficient, consistent evaluation across divisions.
• Engage with citizens, developers, attorneys and engineers to discuss land use proposals and guide proposals toward approved paths.
• Report to the Planning Commission and City Council with professional recommendations on applications and policy.
• Oversee staff to maintain efficient daily operations and meet published review timelines for planning applications.
• Help manage boards and commissions related to land use and ensure maps and official City maps are kept up to date.
• Develop review programs, set broad priorities, and coordinate long-range planning activities including updates to the comprehensive plan.
