Job summary

International Search Consultants is partnering with a premier client in the Greater Baltimore area to recruit a Director of Accounting & Financial Reporting. This leader will oversee complex accounting initiatives, ensure GAAP-compliant financial reporting, and strengthen policies and internal controls across the home office and community entities.

The role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, strategic leadership, and hands-on process improvement.

Qualifications

• Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in accounting and financial reporting, including at least five years in a management or supervisory role.
• Extensive knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
• Experience overseeing financial statement preparation, audit coordination, and internal controls.
• Proven ability to research, interpret, and apply complex accounting guidance and evolving accounting standards.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, developing, and motivating high-performing accounting teams.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Public accounting or CPA firm experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a high-performance environment focused on collaboration, accountability, technical excellence, and continuous professional growth.
• Oversee the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and related disclosures for home office and community entities, ensuring GAAP compliance.
• Direct research and analysis of complex accounting matters, material transactions, and contractual arrangements; develop recommendations for accurate reporting.
• Evaluate and implement new accounting standards and regulatory changes, ensuring timely, consistent application.
• Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to strengthen reporting integrity and mitigate risks.
• Partner with internal and external auditors, address findings, and drive timely corrective actions.
• Serve as a subject matter expert to finance and accounting teams, providing guidance on complex issues.
• Identify opportunities to enhance processes, reporting methodologies, and control frameworks.
