Job summary

CI Design, Inc. in Baltimore, MD seeks a Controller to lead day-to-day accounting and financial operations. You will work closely with executive leadership and the Fractional CFO to support financial health, reporting, and growth across architectural/engineering projects.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in accounting within professional services, strong project-based accounting knowledge, and extensive financial reporting experience. This on-site role includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 10+ years progressive accounting experience.
• ERP/accounting systems experience with Unanet or Deltek.
• Strong project-based accounting, WIP management and reporting.
• Experience with Hybrid Accounting Standards.
• Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Experience with external accountants, insurance, and banking partners.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and develop staff.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations (AP, AR, payroll coordination, billing, GL).
• Manage month-, quarter-, and year-end closes with financial statements.
• Collaborate with leadership and Fractional CFO on budgeting and cash flow.
• Monitor project financial performance and profitability reporting.
• Define KPIs and monthly reporting for management.
• Prepare financial statements per Hybrid Accounting Standards.
• Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and banks.
• Oversee payroll, tax compliance, and benefits administration.
• Provide data-driven recommendations to improve financial performance.
• Support system improvements and accounting process optimization.
• Manage and develop accounting staff; maintain confidentiality.
