Job summary

ICA Fund seeks a Chief Development & Communications Officer to build capital, visibility, and market presence for its next chapter of impact in Oakland, CA. This role transcends traditional fundraising, requiring a strategic, relationship‑driven leader who can articulate a compelling enterprise‑capital case and drive long‑term revenue streams.

You will develop integrated development, marketing, and communications strategies, lead a campaign, and partner with the CEO and Board to scale resources,

Qualifications

• 10+ years of nonprofit development, fundraising, and/or communications with executive leadership.
• Proven success closing principal- and major-gift investments.
• Ability to translate organizational strategy into a long-term fundraising narrative.
• Experience with donor management/CRM platforms.
• Ability to lead and develop a team.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead an integrated, multi-year development strategy aligned with ICA’s direction and impact.
• Build a compelling enterprise-capital investment thesis and fundraising narrative.
• Develop a diversified fundraising portfolio: major gifts, foundations, campaigns, and long-term capital.
• Establish fundraising goals, metrics, and accountability mechanisms.
• Design and manage a pipeline and capitalization campaign with research, mapping, and cultivation.
• Partner with CEO/Board on gift levels, campaign phases, and leadership engagement.
• Strengthen infrastructure to support a sophisticated development function.
• Create systems for donor research, portfolio management, and stewardship.
• Lead and develop staff and external partners responsible for development and communications.
