Job summary

Western Digital seeks a high-impact Associate for its WD Capital & Venture team in San Jose. You will lead sophisticated financial models, valuation, and deal economics for M&A and venture opportunities, while shaping investment theses and executive-ready materials.

You will map the deal landscape, conduct rigorous due diligence, and coordinate with Finance, Legal, and HR across the deal lifecycle, with 10–20% travel.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years in investment banking, private equity/growth equity, corporate development, or management consulting with strong financial modeling.
• Transaction execution experience on live deals through diligence, negotiation and close.
• Exceptional financial modeling and quantitative analysis; build models from scratch across valuation and deal structures.
• Experience producing investment memos, Board materials, and executive-ready deal summaries with minimal oversight.
• Familiarity with due diligence workstreams across Legal, Finance, HR, IT, and product.
• Operates independently and delivers under tight deadlines with attention to detail.
• Familiarity with market intelligence platforms (PitchBook, CapIQ, etc.).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong Excel and PowerPoint; data visualization a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead financial modeling and deal economics independently including DCF/valuation, comps, accretion/dilution, synergy analysis.
• Build and defend sophisticated financial models from scratch and stress-test assumptions.
• Develop unit economics and value-creation frameworks for M&A and venture opportunities.
• Map target landscape, research acquisition candidates, track competitor activity, maintain deal pipeline and CRM.
• Conduct primary and secondary research to identify targets and support pipeline reviews.
• Produce executive-ready investment memos, deal summaries, and Board materials; translate analysis into clear narratives.
• Support WD Capital by conducting diligence on startup opportunities and develop independent theses.
• Build relationships with VCs and startup ecosystems to support deal sourcing.
• Partner with Finance, Legal, HR and business leaders to coordinate due diligence and integration hand-offs.
