Job summary

McKesson is seeking a Strategic Data Scientist to refine value propositions and deliver world-class analytics from a vast store of live data. The role focuses on prioritizing high-value, client-impacting insights to drive commercial outcomes.

Based in Columbus, OH, the candidate will collaborate with business units and external clients, turning data into clear insights and actionable recommendations while developing expertise in CoverMyMeds and the healthcare industry.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in data analytics, public health, or related field.
• 5-7 years analytics experience in healthcare/Pharma.
• Understanding of data science methodologies including decision trees, multivariate analysis, segmentation, regression, forecasting, ML.
• Experience with statistical software (Python, R, MATLAB, SAS).
• Curious problem solver with ability to handle complex data issues.
• Driven, self-motivated team player with competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Build trusted relationships with CSTs and external clients using data stories to demonstrate the value of CMM products.
• Deliver proactive analyses of portfolio performance, customer needs, and business risks or opportunities, including market events.
• Apply statistical methods and predictive modeling to analyze product data, identify drivers, and forecast outcomes.
• Monitor portfolio health, provide stakeholder updates and business reviews, escalate issues as needed.
• Present clear, actionable insights through concise client-facing visuals and recommendations.
• Identify opportunities to improve product value and analytical efficiency.
• Support complex client requests and escalations in partnership with account teams.
• Contribute insights informing strategic and tactical decisions across analytics, product design, and operations.
• Develop expertise in CoverMyMeds, the pharmaceutical industry, and the business context of supported accounts.

The Strategic Data Scientist at CoverMyMeds makes a meaningful contribution to the success of our company. This role contributes to value proposition refinement and supports key customer teams by providing world‑class analytics and insight into our vast store of live data. The SDS will focus on maximizing time spent on high‑value, client‑impacting insights by prioritizing work that directly drives commercial outcomes.

This position collaborates extensively with business units and channels across the company and supports the business goals of external clients.

Critical Skills And Minimum Qualification

BA/BS degree or equivalent experience in data analytics, business, public health, or related field; healthcare experience strongly preferred.

5-7 years of experience in an analytics role in healthcare/Pharma industry preferred.

Understanding of data science methodologies including decision trees, multivariate analysis, segmentation modeling, factor analysis, regression analysis, forecasting, machine learning, etc.

Experience or understanding of statistical software (PYTHON, R, MATLAB, SAS, etc.)

Curious problem solver by nature; able to quickly make sense of complex data issues.

Driven, self‑motivated, team player adept at working in environment with competing priorities.

Experience with data mining, analysis, and providing insights.

Adept at creating queries, writing reports, and presenting findings.

Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in SQL.

Intermediate to Advanced proficiency in data visualization tools e.g., Excel, Tableau, etc.

Able to communicate and manage expectations.

Industry Expertise– Specifically in Insurance, Pharmaceutical, or Healthcare.

Collaboration– Key success factors in this role include leading without direct authority, building relationships across multiple functions, and listening to input and perspectives from across the organization, customers, and industry stakeholders.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long‑term incentive opportunities may be offered.
