Strategic Cost & Manufacturing Accounting Director

Job summary

LHH partners with an established manufacturing company to recruit an Accounting Director who will lead the accounting team, partner with operations, and strengthen cost accounting and reporting processes in a hands‑on, business‑driven role.

Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, you will oversee GL, month‑end close, inventory and fixed assets, drive KPI reporting, and mentor staff while ensuring GAAP compliance and robust internal controls.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.
• 5+ years of cost accounting experience in manufacturing.
• 3+ years of management or supervisory experience.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, month‑end close, financial reporting, and GAAP.
• Experience with inventory accounting and inventory management strongly preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, macros, and analysis of complex data sets.

Responsibilities

• Manage general ledger accounting activities and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Review GL transactions, identify discrepancies, and resolve accounting issues.
• Prepare account reconciliations and supporting workpapers.
• Support month‑end close, including inventory, fixed assets, AR, and AP.
• Prepare financial and operational reporting for management.
• Analyze business trends, costs, revenue, and other key financial drivers.
• Partner with the Controller on month‑end reporting, data extraction, and analysis.
• Support cost accounting, including cost roll requests and manufacturing‑related analysis.
• Assist with inventory management and inventory reduction initiatives.
• Maintain and report weekly KPIs for Accounting and Operations.
• Partner with corporate shared services supporting AR and AP activities.
• Assist with state and federal sales tax reporting.
• Maintain strong internal controls and appropriate segregation of duties.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting, and overall efficiency.
• Cross‑train and collaborate with other members of the accounting team.
