Job summary

The Institute of Management Accountants, Inc. is seeking a Controller in New Jersey to own all accounting operations for a fast-growing startup.

You will drive scalable financial processes, ensure GAAP compliance, and support rapid expansion through cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Legal, and Operations. You will lead end-to-end accounting, manage monthly close and GAAP financial statements, and optimize NetSuite, QuickBooks, Stripe, and Aleph.

Qualifications

• 7+ years progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years leading month-end close.
• Deep expertise in GAAP, ASC 606, and financial reporting standards.
• Experience managing ERP and billing platforms (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Ramp, Stripe, Aleph).
• Hands‑on approach to implementing scalable workflows in a startup.
• CPA certification strongly preferred; excellent cross‑functional communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end accounting across AP, AR, billing, revenue recognition (ASC 606), and cash management
• Manage monthly close, GL reconciliations, journal entries, and GAAP financial statements
• Coordinate with external firms for audits, tax filings, and internal controls
• Optimize accounting software and ERP systems (NetSuite, QuickBooks) and billing platforms (Stripe, Aleph)
• Partner with Sales, Legal, and Operations on contracts and revenue recognition workflows
• Oversee bespoke client invoicing, multi-tiered billing, and collections for Fortune 500 clients
• Support strategic FP&A, process improvement, and automation initiatives to scale growth
