Job summary

Vaco, partnering with a confidential organization near Springfield, MA, seeks a hands-on Controller who will lead day-to-day accounting, manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, and partner closely with executive leadership to drive financial excellence.

You will oversee A/P, A/R, payroll, prepare financial statements, perform cost accounting and profitability analysis, and mentor a growing accounting team while strengthening internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Progressive accounting experience, including leadership or controllership responsibilities.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, month-end close, and internal controls.
• Construction or other project-based industry experience is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills with a hands-on approach.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
• Prepare and review financial statements, journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Perform cost accounting, job costing, profitability analysis, and commission calculations.
• Manage multi-state sales and use tax compliance and 1099 reporting.
• Partner with the CFO on financial reporting, internal controls, and continuous process improvements.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while ensuring strong internal controls and segregation of duties.
