Job summary

JM Recruiting in Billings, MT is seeking a Controller to lead our accounting operations, reporting directly to the CFO. You will manage the general ledger, close cycles, budgeting, cash management, and the accounting team, partnering with leadership to drive financial accuracy and strategic decision-making.

Responsibilities include supervising GL/AP/AR, payroll coordination, fixed assets, and internal controls, while delivering timely statements.

Qualifications

• Progressive accounting experience including prior Controller or senior accounting leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, and cash-flow management.
• Experience managing accounting systems and advanced Excel proficiency.
• Ability to lead accounting staff and communicate financial information to non-financial leaders.
• Experience in distribution, construction supply, manufacturing, or related industry preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, and fixed assets.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and deliver accurate, timely financial statements and reporting to the CFO.
• Develop and maintain effective internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
• Partner with the CFO to prepare budgets, forecasts, cash-flow projections, and financial analysis for company leadership.
• Monitor cash, working capital, inventory accounting, and key financial performance indicators.
• Coordinate tax filings, audits, banking relationships, insurance, and other external financial requirements.
• Partner with operations and sales leaders to improve margins, controls, reporting, and business performance.
• Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff while establishing clear priorities and accountability.
• Evaluate accounting systems and processes and implement improvements that support growth and efficiency.
• Support the CFO with strategic initiatives, financial decision-making, and special projects.
