Job summary

Baltimore City Government is hiring a Director of Strategic Communications. This exempt position will lead strategic communications, media relations, and public information efforts for the City of Baltimore, with responsibilities across internal and external communications, branding, and crisis messaging.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five years in public information or nonprofit communications, including supervisory experience.

Qualifications

• Five years of experience in performing public information, public relations, convention, or non-profit management work; supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements strategic communications and marketing plans supporting goals, brand awareness, and public outreach.
• Leads internal communications, including employee newsletters, executive messaging, and presentations.
• Directs media relations activities and responses to media inquiries.
• Advises leadership on messaging, public positioning, and crisis communications.
• Oversees print and digital materials including presentations, newsletters, photography, videography, and branded collateral.
• Coordinates communications for major events, initiatives, and incidents.
• Maintains relationships with media, partners, and associations.
• Monitors trends in communications and destination marketing.
• Serves as staff liaison to Mayor’s Office and City Council, and as agency Public Information Officer.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, public policy, or related field
