Job summary

AAAS in Washington, DC seeks a Communications Officer to oversee project planning and execution, manage timelines and budgets, and guide cross‑unit communications aligned with AAAS priorities. You will supervise day‑to‑day and strategic messaging for the Alliance and CSEW initiatives.

The role splits time between the STEMM Opportunity Alliance (60%) and the Center for STEMM Education and Workforce (40%), developing communication strategies and supporting engagement with Partners and AAAS

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years’ experience or Associate’s with 6+ years’ experience on multi-year projects.
• Ability to initiate streamlined communication processes for complex projects.
• Experience with monitoring platforms and social media management tools.
• Coalition communications management and strategic messaging experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for multiple audiences.

Responsibilities

• Develop, manage, monitor, and optimize content across social media, newsletters, blogs, and STEMMOpportunity.org.
• Analyze content performance and use insights to improve Alliance communications.
• Support refreshes of STEMMOpportunity.org and AAAS.org content.
• Develop multimedia content including graphics, newsletters, videos, and web content.
• Provide input on messaging and support speech development.
• Develop toolkits and resources for Alliance Partners and projects.
• Serve as communications contact for Partners on campaigns and content.
• Coordinate with the Office of Communications on priorities and deliverables.
• Support engagement strategies with AAAS members and participants.
• Coordinate with public relations partners and information officers on announcements and events.
