Job summary

Shelter Insurance Companies seeks a Litigation Counsel to direct claims litigation activities and case strategy across designated states. You will supervise outside counsel, guide branches on state-law requirements, and coordinate training programs to ensure compliance with insurance policies and procedures.

The role requires a law degree with strong litigation experience in insurance, along with the ability to build relationships across branches and departments.

Qualifications

• Law degree and thorough knowledge of litigation, insurance law, and policy terms.
• ~1-3 years trial or legal claims experience with 6-12 months on-the-job training to learn contracts, claims procedures, jurisdictions, and interdepartmental relationships.

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage claims litigation activities and case strategy for designated Shelter states.
• Supervise and coordinate outside attorneys and trial teams.
• Provide guidance to branches on state-law requirements and procedures.
• Research law to explain impact on claims handling and policy terms.
• Counsel other departments on coverage and legal issues.
• Train staff through schools, eLearning, and Branches.
