Job summary

Saint Louis Science Center seeks a results-driven Chief Financial Officer to lead financial strategy, budgeting, and compliance across multiple funding streams. The role partners with senior leadership to align financial goals with the nonprofit’s mission and long-term objectives.

The CFO will oversee finance and IT, mentor staff, and provide actionable insights, ensuring strong internal controls, risk management, and transparent reporting to the Board and stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in finance required with nonprofit finance experience
• Master’s degree or CPA preferred
• Minimum 10 years’ experience leading financial operations
• Experience in growth phase organizations and capital budgeting
• Strong planning, organizational skills and attention to detail
• Experience managing 457(b) retirement plans
• Proven people management and collaboration skills
• Knowledge of GASB, GAAP, and FASB

Responsibilities

• Serve as strategic financial advisor to President/CEO with analytics, financial modeling, and growth initiatives
• Lead long-range financial planning, budgeting for operations and capital projects, forecasting and multi-year planning
• Oversee finance and IT departments; model organizational values
• Lead, mentor, and develop finance and accounting team
• Liaise with the Board of Commissioners and committees, presenting monthly financial reports
• Prepare annual audited financial statements and coordinate with CPAs to ensure compliance
• Oversee IRS Form 990 filings and other regulatory filings
• Ensure financial integrity of contracts and commitments
• Oversee general ledger to support reporting for publicly and privately funded entities
• Manage risk and maintain appropriate liability insurance
• Direct IT contractor management and infrastructure alignment
• Coordinate workforce planning with HR to meet financial goals
• Oversee retirement benefits administration
• Perform other duties as requested
