Job summary

San Antonio Zoo seeks an experienced Chief Financial Officer to provide strategic financial direction and leadership. You will oversee budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, internal controls, and regulatory compliance to ensure long-term financial health and responsible stewardship of resources.

The role partners with the President/CEO and board to shape the zoo's financial strategy, manage capital plans, and drive efficiency across departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• Ten (10) years’ experience in a non-profit environment, educational facility, or comparable industry.
• Minimum eight (8) years’ senior level management experience including the supervision of multiple functions/departments.
• Strong interpersonal, team-building, communication and delegation skills.
• Experience managing complex organizations and processes; manages well at both administrative and strategic levels.

Responsibilities

• Oversees operating and capital budgets with diverse funding sources.
• Maintains internal controls and financial policies; ensures compliance with laws.
• Develops financial pro formas for programs, exhibits, partnerships.
• Presents financial information to President/CEO, Senior Leadership Team, Board and external stakeholders.
• Oversees payroll operations for accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
• Contract administration and negotiation for zoo business arrangements.
• Leads collaboration with Finance and Investment Committee on financial health and risks.
