Job summary

IDEX, through its Hurst division, is seeking a Buyer to source, negotiate, and purchase materials for Shelby, NC operations. You will drive supplier performance, coordinate with planning, engineering, and quality teams, and maintain supply continuity in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree and 2–4 years of purchasing experience, including international suppliers. JD Edwards familiarity is a plus, with on-site responsibilities at the Hurst facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Production, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or Engineering.
• 2-4 years purchasing and materials control experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience working with international suppliers / supply chains.

Responsibilities

• Manage procurement activities, including issuing purchase orders, expediting orders, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining supplier commitments.
• Evaluate and analyze buy signals generated by the MRP system; experience with JD Edwards (JDE) is preferred.
• Collaborate with Planning to support material availability and adjustments in production planning to meet business demands.
• Actively manage supplier lead times, expedite critical shortages, and support inventory optimization initiatives through MRP recommendations.
• Understand procurement policies and procedures and execute duties accordingly; suggest improvements for efficiency.
• Collaborate with internal departments to understand purchasing requirements and resolve supply challenges.
• Analyze supplier performance using quality, delivery, cost, inventory, and risk metrics to improve the supply chain.
• Coordinate supplier quality, delivery, and nonconformance issues with internal teams and suppliers to minimize disruption.
• Authorize payment of invoices or returns of merchandise as appropriate.
• Interface with vendors and build strong working relationships across procurement processes.
• Support sourcing, inventory management, and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
