Job summary

Western Washington University is seeking a Budget Analyst in the Strategy, Management & Budget area to help plan, develop, implement, and administer the university’s operating budget.

The role includes supporting state budget processes, preparing fiscal notes, and providing financial analysis to inform decision-makers across campuses. A bachelor’s degree and at least three years of budget experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, finance, or a related field.
  • At least three years of professional experience related to budgets and financial management.
  • Ability to translate complex fiscal information into clear, easy-to-understand language.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal communication, analytical, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines on multiple projects.
  • Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds as part of an inclusive team.
  • Ability to handle sensitive financial information in a confidential manner.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with biennial and supplemental budget development and coordinate decision packages.
  • Prepare expenditure plans and monthly journal vouchers; monitor actuals for reconciliation.
  • Analyze proposed budgets and identify potential impacts to WWU.
  • Review legislative bills and draft fiscal notes; translate impacts for stakeholders.
  • Coordinate meetings with WWU units, Governmental Relations, and OFM during sessions.
