Job summary

Charles Schwab Corporation is seeking an experienced accounting professional to oversee the accounting for the investment securities portfolio and borrowing activities. This role sits in the Corporate Controller's Department and collaborates with Treasury, Accounting Policy, and external consultants.

You will manage monthly close, reconciliations, fair value assessments, and system improvements, championing automation and strong controls across Schwab's banking subsidiaries and trust entities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
• 5+ years of accounting experience required.
• Operational accounting and treasury systems experience in high-transaction-volume environment.
• Strong Microsoft Excel proficiency.
• Ability to communicate complex information concisely.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounting for investment securities portfolio and borrowing activities across multiple entities, including monthly close, journal entries, reconciliations, analysis, and reporting support.
• Partner with Treasury and liquidity teams on new investment activities and funding initiatives, including repurchase agreements and Federal Reserve funding sources.
• Review monthly close results, variance analyses, reconciliations, and schedules supporting financial, SEC, and regulatory reporting for investments and borrowings.
• Maintain and adhere to SOX controls; lead discussions with SOX compliance team; participate in internal audits.
• Work with technology teams to implement enhancements and expand automation opportunities.
• Investigate and resolve reconciling items within portfolios through thorough analysis and documentation.
• Respond to inquiries from external auditors and regulatory reporting teams regarding investments and borrowings.
