Job summary

AfterQuery, a San Francisco‑based applied AI research lab, seeks a senior engineer to architect core data infrastructure powering foundation-model development. You will work with leading AI labs to deliver scalable data solutions and directly influence model training and evaluation.

The role demands deep chemical/biomedical life-sciences expertise, proven leadership, and a passion for AI with an entrepreneurial mindset.

Qualifications

3+ years in chemical/biomedical/life-sciences engineering roles at top companies, labs, or hospitals.
Background in chemical process design or related life-sciences engineering.
Deep understanding of chemistry/biology fundamentals with quantitative reasoning.
High agency and ability to define problems with minimal direction in ambiguity.
Demonstrated leadership and strong communication abilities.
Genuine passion for AI and entrepreneurial inclination.
Evidence of competitive achievements (patents, publications, etc.).

Responsibilities

Project and client management with AI organizations to build data solutions and drive revenue.
Lead and coordinate specialized teams across domains to deliver outputs at scale.
Design dataset specifications influencing model evaluation and improvements.
Own critical projects end-to-end from scoping to shipping in a fast-paced environment.
Support cross-functional business initiatives across multiple units.
