Job summary

Bodycote, the world’s largest provider of thermal processing services, seeks a Straightener based in Vernon, CA. You will perform basic sheet metal and bar straightening under supervision, ensuring customer specifications are met.

Responsibilities

• Check and record straightness and dimensional records per work orders.
• Perform routine mechanical straightening and preparing material.
• Set up and operate shrinker and stretch press as needed.
• Handle hot parts up to 1400°F during straightening.
• Promote safety and good housekeeping in the shop.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/lead.
• Care for customer inventory and report issues safely and promptly.
• Report to work on time and follow directions with team collaboration.

Position Summary

Based in Vernon, CA the Straightener will perform essential job functions associated with preparing and performing basic sheet metal and bar straightening under the direction of the Supervisor/Leadperson to meet customer specifications including assisting other employees as needed.

Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)

• Checks and records straightness and dimensional records as required by work orders.
• Performs routine mechanical straightening- prepares material, performs basic metal bar straightening and plate straightening as required.
• Performs shrinker and stretch press set-up and operation.
• Ability to handle hot parts up to 1400°F while performing straightening operations.
• Promotes and practices safety and good housekeeping
• Performs other tasks as assigned or dictated by position.
• This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customer’s inventory and as such will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage.
• Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticism.

Level C: Entry Level: 0 to 24 months of experience.

You will be expected to learn and grow in your role, with guidance from senior team members.

Level B: Mid-Level: 2 to 3 years of experience.

You should have a proven track record in heat treating, along with the ability to work independently and collaborate across teams.

Level A: Senior-Level: 3 to 5 years of experience.

You will lead initiatives, mentor junior team members, and make strategic contributions to the department.

• This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements, therefore candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holders.
• Education – High school diploma or equivalent
• Must have basic math skills and mechanical aptitude.
• Must have 1 year minimum forklift operation experience.
• Must have the basic ability to read micrometers or verniers.
• May be required to work overtime or any shift, including Saturdays
• Must demonstrate the ability to read, write and communicate the English language
• Must be able to wear protective safety equipment as required.

Physical & Mental Demands:

The following physical and mental demands consist of, but are not limited to the following.

• Must be able to work in a standing position for extended periods of time
• Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain forklift operator certification.
• Ability to bend, pull, stoop, climb, twist, and reach to perform functions.
• Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
• May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
• Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
• Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
• Ability to hear in person and via phone..

Pay & Benefits Information

The hourly pay range for this position is $22.00 - $28.00 per hour. Starting pay is determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications. This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with state and federal law.

This role is eligible for additional compensation, including shift differential, etc., if applicable.
