Job summary

Allied Machine & Engineering in Ohio is seeking a disciplined inspector/center grinder to ensure spade drill holders meet geometry specs after heat treating. You will inspect with optical comparators and perform straightening and center grinding on standard and special products.

Training on optical comparator is provided; experience with calipers, micrometers, and gauges is valued. The role requires lifting 32 lbs and standing 8–12 hours; adherence to schedules and collaboration with the Holder

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; apprenticeship preferred.
• Experience or training with optical comparators preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret dimensions.
• Ability to lift up to 32 lbs; stand 8–12 hrs.
• Willingness to learn related inspection and grinding tasks.

Responsibilities

• Inspect holders for proper geometry using optical comparators.
• Straighten holders out of tolerance and center grind as needed.
• Communicate priorities with the Holder Department Supervisor.
• Follow inspection plans and schedule work accordingly.
• Inspect geometry at various production stages and with QA.
• Process orders per supervisor directions and stage for next ops.

To effectively inspect, straighten and grind center on HoldersRESPONSIBILITIES:To effectively inspect holders for proper geometry, primarily on optical comparators, with programmed inspection routines. Must have documented training on the use of the optical comparator.To effectively straighten holders found to be out of tolerance due to excessive Total Indicated Run out.Must be competent (or demonstrate an ability to be trained) at related operations, i.e. Blast Holders, Press Pins, and Install Blade and Inspect in case support on those operations is unavailable. Previous experience on these operations is preferred but not required.To communicate with Holder Department Supervisor (s) to ensure scheduled priorities are being followed and to convey any problems that may cause delays in meeting order due dates.To follow inspection plans for all operations performedMay be called upon to inspect geometry of holders at various stages in the production process other than hardened holders. This may include product returned by customers as nonconforming.Work with Quality Services Department when discrepancies exist between their inspection results and those of manufacturing.To inspect for slot squareness.Sand blast holders upon their return from heat treatInspect and ream gun drill hole as necessary prior to installing dowelInstall dowel pin and inspect its heightCheck holder between centers for TIR and slot squarenessStraighten holders on the Eitel press, if necessaryEffectively set up and operate center grinder for both standard and special productsProcess orders according to appropriate schedule and/or supervisor’s direction, and properly stage product for the next operation.Observe and report any areas that need addressed.QUALIFICATIONS:EducationHigh School Diploma (or equivalent).
