Job summary

The Center for Heirs’ Property (CHP) is seeking a Communications & Storytelling Specialist to support public inquiry management, storytelling, and multi-channel content production. Work closely with the Director of Communications and Marketing & Communications Manager to highlight landowners and communities CHP serves.

You will develop stories, manage inquiries, and assist with digital content across newsletters, websites, and social media while participating in operations and collaborative

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, English, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated professional experience in communications, journalism, content development, marketing, public relations, or related field.
• Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interviewing and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage routine operational responsibilities while advancing longer-term creative projects.
• Sound judgment and discretion handling public inquiries and potentially sensitive information.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Canva, and common digital communications platforms.
• Willingness and ability to travel occasionally within South Carolina.

Responsibilities

• Public Inquiry Management & Communications Intake: monitor inquiries, route messages, acknowledge responses, and maintain records.
• Storytelling & Content Development: identify, develop, write, and produce stories across channels.
• Digital Content & Campaign Support: create content for websites, newsletters, social media, and campaigns; assist with website updates.
• Photography, Video & Field Content: capture visual content, perform basic editing, and organize assets.
• Communications Operations: support vendor management, invoicing, and production logistics.
• Collaboration & Organizational Support: partner with teams to source stories and support editorial planning.
