The City of Plantation is seeking a skilled Stormwater Maintenance Technician to perform inspections, maintenance, and construction across the City's stormwater network. This non-exempt field role requires operating heavy equipment, following safety standards, and coordinating with the Stormwater Crew Leader.
Responsibilities include inspecting canals, pump stations, culverts, and drainage structures, maintaining records, and assisting during emergencies such as floods or hurricanes.
This is a non-exempt skilled field position responsible for performing maintenance, inspection, repair, and construction activities involving the City's stormwater conveyance system, waterways, drainage infrastructure, pump stations, roadside swales, canals, culverts, exfiltration trenches, outfalls, and related stormwater facilities. Employees in this classification perform skilled maintenance work requiring knowledge of stormwater operations and the safe operation of heavy equipment and specialized maintenance vehicles. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Stormwater Crew Leader or Stormwater Technician III and requires the ability to work independently while following established procedures and safety standards. Employees are hired as AT-WILL employees serving at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.
High School Diploma or GED. Minimum two (2) years of experience in stormwater maintenance, drainage construction, heavy equipment operation, or related public works maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Work is performed primarily in outdoor field environments with occasional indoor office duties and requires frequent travel between work sites throughout the City. The employee is regularly exposed to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, humidity, rain, and adverse weather during emergency response operations. Work involves exposure to canals, drainage systems, pump stations, construction sites, roadways with moving traffic, heavy equipment, loud noise, dust, mud, standing water, insects, wildlife, and other environmental hazards associated with stormwater maintenance activities. The position requires operating heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, specialized stormwater maintenance equipment, and working on uneven terrain and around open waterways. This position is designated as an Emergency Response classification and requires the employee to report for duty during hurricanes, flooding events, tropical storms, and other declared emergencies, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays, to support the operation and maintenance of the City's stormwater infrastructure.
The work requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Duties require frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, digging, and operating hand and power tools. The employee must be able to safely operate heavy equipment and commercial vehicles and perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods under varying weather conditions. The position may require entry into confined spaces in accordance with OSHA regulations and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
