Job summary

City of Plantation is seeking a non-exempt senior field technician to perform advanced stormwater inspection, maintenance, repair and construction work across the City's drainage systems. The role may serve as a lead worker, guiding Stormwater Technicians II and coordinating daily field activities.

Requirements include 3+ years in stormwater/public works, a Florida CDL Class B, and the ability to read plans, operate heavy equipment, and follow safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in stormwater maintenance or related public works maintenance.
  • Valid Florida Driver License and CDL Class B.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and maps.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Lead worker on assigned maintenance projects and provide technical guidance to Stormwater Technicians II.
  • Assist Stormwater Crew Leader in coordinating daily field activities and work assignments.
  • Perform inspections of canals, culverts, catch basins, drainage structures, pump stations, swales, outfalls, and stormwater conveyance systems.
  • Operate heavy equipment, trucks, and specialized stormwater maintenance equipment safely.
  • Perform roadway sweeping, vacuum truck operations, storm drain cleaning, pipe jetting, sediment removal, and vegetation management.
  • Identify drainage deficiencies and recommend maintenance or repair needs.
  • Assist with emergency response during floods, hurricanes, and other events.
  • Train and mentor less experienced Stormwater Technicians II.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, work orders, and equipment logs.
  • Ensure compliance with City policies, MS4/ NPDES requirements and safety standards.
  • Respond to customer service requests and assist in field issue resolution.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
