Job summary

The City of Savannah is seeking personnel to support stormwater system maintenance, repair, and operations. The role involves outdoor work, use of power tools and hand tools, and response during weather events as part of the Critical Workforce.

A valid driver’s license and basic maintenance experience are required. You will perform concrete/asphalt repair, operate equipment, mow and clear debris, and assist in pumping station maintenance to ensure proper drainage and flood control across city

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Six (6) months of related maintenance experience necessary.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving history.
• Certifications/licenses may include ICS100, ICS700, Bloodborne Pathogens, Traffic control Flagging certification.
• Knowledge of equipment and tools necessary to perform essential duties.
• Knowledge of job-related safety hazards and precautionary methods.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot basic maintenance problems involving the City’s stormwater system.
• Performs concrete and asphalt repair of stormwater-related structures.
• Operates jackhammers, concrete saws, drills, and other small construction-related hand tools.
• Operates line trimmers, mowers, chainsaws, blowers, and other small engine-powered equipment to mow grass, remove trees and overgrowth, and gather debris.
• Uses shovels, rakes, pitchforks, and other hand tools to maintain ditches and canals and related drainage structures.
• Cleans and assists in the operation and maintenance of stormwater pumping stations.
• Maintains the storm drainage system.
• Participates in maintenance and repair work.
• Cleans and maintains facilities, including mowing grass and removing litter.
• Serves in the Critical Workforce for the Department, requiring service during disasters and weather events.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
